They have led us into battle, carried us to new lands, and become favorites in literature and television. But is Using Horses as Food OK? I will be exploring this topic with help through articles written by People with very different views.
The reality is that people have been eating horse meat for a long time. To diners in Canada, Germany, Mexico, Belgium, Italy, so on around the world, horse meat is practically everyday thing for significant portions of the population. Nutritionally, horse meat has around 40 percent fewer calories than beef, while supplying 50 percent more protein and as much as 30 percent more iron. People, who understand the often hard realities of food production, know that horses, for all their beauty and loyal service, are, not much more than horn-less cows. Horse-slaughter companies say they only use Horses that are old, have behavioral issues, or use-less for farmers. “So we’ll eat Bambi, but we won’t eat trigger?” Don Chance states. The fact remains that eating horse meat is no less natural for humans than consuming any other animal. Horse meat is perfectly good, healthy, organic protein. The ancient Romans knew it, the American Indians knew it, the original homesteaders knew it, and horse meat could come in handy in unplanned times.

However, we have only looked at one viewpoint of horse-slaughter; a good judge looks at both sides of the case before making a decision. Horse slaughter has existed in the shadows for many years. By 2002, the United States had thankfully banned horse-slaughter from all states except one-Texas. Texas unfortunately had the largest horse-slaughter plant the “Dallas Crown”. There are several things that are wrongs with horse slaughter. According to the USDA, the three horse slaughter plants remaining in the US (two in Texas and one in Illinois) killed over 94,000 horses in 2005 for human consumption. An additional twenty thousand horses were transported to Canada and Mexico for slaughter. According to 2001 field studies, 70% of all horses at the slaughter plant were in good, 84% were of average age; and 96% had no behavioral issues. According to federal law, horses must be unconscious prior to slaughter, usually by captive bolt. However, videos and personal testimonies reveal horses that are not effectively stunned, even with repeated blows. These horses are still conscious when they are shackled, hoisted by a rear leg into the air, and cut across the throat. Dallas Crown allows for almost 10,000 horses to be slaughtered alive annually. This is not all; there are many more reasons why horse-slaughter should be banned. "Horses are not livestock; we think they deserve more humane treatment.” Mary Nash says, taking a stand. Horse-slaughter is obviously the wrong thing to do.

Now that both sides are presented, let’s compare whether Horse-slaughter should be banned, or if it is perfectly fine. Well, on the side for horse-slaughter. It says that the horse meat is healthy for you. But the side against horse-slaughter says it doesn’t matter how healthy it is, it just isn’t right to kill horses. The side for horse-slaughter also says that horses are no more than horn-less cows, But the Department of Agriculture think different. Finally, the side for horse-slaughter says that they only use old, injured, have behavioral issues, or use-less for farmers for slaughter. Yet the opposing side says they have videos, testimonials, and photos that are quite the opposite. Something that was not contested by the Side for horse slaughter was that of the horses still being conscious when they are shackled, hoisted by a leg in the air, and cut on throat. This doesn’t sound too comfortable to me! Now that we have looked at both sides, compared the two, I have decided who I stand by…the side for horse-slaughter, or the side against.
After much thought, (and a grueling paperJ) I have decided that Horse-slaughter in my book is wrong. For one thing, I am an animal softy, but I have other reasons to back me up. The first reason I stand by, is that of whether or not a horse is live-stock. Well horse and cows have nothing BIG in common. And if the department of agriculture says they are not, well, need I say more? The second thing I stand on is the issue of whether or not the horses killed are healthy, good animals, or old, mean ones. I myself, have personally seen several pictures, watched a few videos and the horses crammed into metal stalls, and not all old. Several of them couldn’t be more than a year old! None of them looked un-useful, or temperament challenged. If they had been fed and groomed, they would have been beautiful! And the third and final thing, which disgusts me the most, is the fact that 10,000 horses have been shackled, hoisted by a rear leg into the air, and cut across the throat still alive and conscious. Dallas Crown, You disgust me! It’s about time that we started speaking out for those who have no voices.

Some of the Horses waiting to be slaughterd :(

Hey all you people, Sorry if the fourth paragraph is confusing! My job was to fold all the underwear and socks. Yuck! She told us one day that we could decorate Christmas ornaments when we finished the laundry. I however was quite the slow-poke and soon Catie & Johnny were done, but I was not. Once she had left the room I grabbed the laundry in armfuls and put it in MY MOM’S BATHTUB OF ALL PLACES!!! I then ran downstairs and told her that I had finished. Her not believing I could finish in two minutes at the rate I had been going asked me “Show me where you put it.” I promptly replied “Away.” This continued to be my answer as she asked me where it was after checking all the drawers (Which were indeed empty). But when she had her hand on the bathroom door I shouted “THERE IN THE BATHTUB! Do I still get to do Christmas ornaments?” Which I did not. So the moral of this story is Tell the truth!!!! P.s. I will try to have a story of me like this with a moral at least every month! :)

I was recently reading a forward one of my friends had sent me, It asked if I had more than thirty pairs of shoes. I answered NO. Thirty pairs of shoes?!?!?!?!? All a person needs is

1) A good pair of tennis shoes
2) Church/Debate shoes
3) Flip-flops
4) Possibly some working shoes

I once overheard someone say they had over ten pairs of Flip-Flops! With guys they could most likely care less how many shoes they had as long as they were cool. But its like a contest to see who has the most shoes for us girls! Some of the shoes people wear are ridiculous!
I found these pictures and thought they were interesting.

What is it? My mom persuaded me to do it. She offered me a Breyer of my choice if I did it at all the tournaments we went to. Here is the one i picked. My mom does not like to call it a bribe, just a goal incentive. Impromtu is where you are given three topics. as soon as your receive your topics the timer gives you two minutes prep time. In this time you choose which one the three topics to speak on. Then in the remaining time you have you think of your thesis. Which is the main point you are trying to get across. After that you think of three points to support your thesis, and three examples to support those points. Then you may want to try to get a personal story as your introduction. This is a REALY good attention grabber! its quite hard! just an example of one is

Topic: Bravery

Thesis you chose: With God we can be brave.

Introduction: Going on the roof putting up christmas lights, I was scared but in the end I was brave about it.

1 Point: God helps us stand up for whats right
Example for that point: Corrie Ten Boom

2 Point: Without God its hard to be brave
Example for that point: Hagar, From Genesis

3 Point: Being brave can glorify God
Example for that point: Daniel and the lions den

Closer: All you do is just go over what you said and reinforce what you
said before and really driving your thesis home!

So that is the main gist of it.

ITS COMING!!!!!
The beamer rowlands fashion show will be here shortly!
i will get it up this afternoon! if the computer is working!

I LOVE cows!! they are really really awsome!!! I have always appreciated cows, yet never actually LIKED cows..... Until now!In Ecuador, when I was feeling poorly, my friend Atalie, bought me a cow fingerpuppet. It was the inspiration for my collection. After I got better, I decided that maybe I should collect cows. And later I decided I wanted to have a cow birthday party. I now am the proud owner of a fingerpuppet of a cow, a 1" cow stuffed animal, a painted wooden cow figure, a crazy cow that laugh's hysterically when you push a button, a pair of cow earings, a cow beanie baby, and last but NOT least, my favorite...COWY!!!!!! That's were the name 'Cowy' came from!Cowy has done everthing with me through my life. He went to iowa, he went to all my birthday party's, He has gone on all of our family vacations, he has always gone to scholarship camp with me. And he was the star at my birthday. He sleeps with me every night. I have fallen in DEEP LOVE with Cowy!!! Which is kinda sad, because I also LOVE steak!

One of my dreams for when I get older is to be a Animal Cop.
I have always enjoyed watching the show and I know that when I get older, I will have to work around animal's. Every time I watch the show I feel inspired. It also looks pretty fun to throw people in jail! At least the people who deserve it! My future plan is to have 2 Bernese Mountain Dogs, 1 Great Dane, 1 husky, 1 Toy Fox Terrier, And 2 cats. I hope I marry a rich husband! And we will have to have a really big house! I have always wanted a bernese mountain dog. they are the prettiest dogs EVER!!!! In my opinion. My mom was never to excited about them. She did agree they were pretty though. Back to the point. I want to be a houston animal cop. I don't know why I prefer that to San Francisco, or Detroit. I just do. So um, yah. I have to give Catie most of the credit, for I only made the cute sign you see, and the first box. However Catie atached a tunnel from the first building to a very large box. She then made a second floor in it, and seeing it was very dark cut windows. Then thinking of the kitty, put badding in it to make it soft and cozy for the little guy! However I did have to put duct-tape over the edges, because squiggy has suddenly developed a taste for cardboard. Well at trader joe's they have some of the best strudles around. We get several at a time, beacuse they are not always around. Last time we picked some up, they soon were almost gone. Only one remaining mixed berry strudel was left. In urgent means of keeping it for myself i hid it behind other frozen items in our freezer for some time. Eventauly i sweet talked my mom into letting me have it all for myself as one of my birthday presents. That was around christmas i think so it has been in our freezer for about a year! Well Today i pulled it out of the freezer and baked it! It was wonderful! i ate to much though and got a little sick of it ( god forbid!) so i ended up giving the rest of it away to my family who was already eyeing it. As i close this post, i encourage you to get the strudels at Trader Joe's!
